Assistant to the City Manager
Work involves directly assisting the City Manager in a staff role. May research, analyze, coordinate, or conduct special projects. Responsibilities include various and multiple assignments, interacting with the public, entire organization and elected officials
Essential Functions:
· Serves as a liaison representing the City Manager and the Executive Department with various community groups and organizations, the news media, and internal City departments and agencies.
· Represents the City Manager, personally, in writing, in meetings or via telephone.
· Performs research and develops policy and administrative recommendations relating to various aspects of municipal operations; identifies, analyzes, and develops recommendations on issues; develops the City’s position for communication to others both in writing and verbally.
· Participates in preparing materials for public release and for purposes of legislative, municipal, or community relations.
· Provides staff support to various City Council task forces and committees.
· Acts as key contact for City Council information requests; personally accountable for ensuring inquiries are answered in a timely manner.
· Handles citizen complaints in a professional manner, ensuring citizen satisfaction to the greatest extent possible.
· Serves as project leader for special projects on complex issues as determined by the City Manager.
· Organizes, plans weekly staff meetings and City Council agendas, schedules and previews presentations; arranges and schedules briefings for City Council; contacts individuals scheduled to appear before Council.
· Assists in development of new methods, procedures and policies.
· Responds to inquiries from news media.
Education/Experience:
Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a bachelor's degree, master’s degree preferred, in public or business administration or related field and at least five years of professional work experience in a public or governmental environment; or any equivalent combination of training and experience which would provide the following knowledge, abilities, and skills
SALARY RANGE: $64,795 - $111,909 annually
