A company dedicated to mixing superior people with state-of-the-practice technology to deliver consistently powerful results.DescriptionPosition SummaryDeath Benefits Analysts are responsible for securing and analyzing claim information to make beneficiary determination to ensure death benefits are processed and disbursed in accordance with the Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) and Federal Retirement Thrift Investment Board (FRTIB) policies and guidelines. Death Benefits Analysts are responsible for processing all claims for death benefits; averaging between 600 and 900 open claims per month. Daily interaction and involvement with the Thrift Savings Plan support services for death benefits claims processing executing the appropriate replies / actions, consistent with and in accordance with the polices and regulations of the FRTIB. The position will manage all related document flows, including the receiving, recording, logging, tracking, scanning, and appropriate or required replies / communications relating to the potential beneficiary (ies) Thrift Savings Plan death benefits claim. Position ResponsibilitiesThe Death Benefits Analyst III works under general guidance, independently determining and developing solutions utilizing sound judgment equitably;1. Thorough, comprehensive, proficient knowledge of the responsibilities and requirements of an Analyst I and II. a. Conduct required research on death benefits claim applications to ensure all pertinent information is obtained, validating the information utilizing various systems applications: Power Image Application (PI) to view and validate all documentation pertinent to the claims application & Personal Service Records Application (PSR) to review the participant’s account and obtain information critical in making beneficiary determination. b. Determine the beneficiary (ies) based on the information obtained while conducting research on the death benefits claim application, in accordance with the designation of beneficiaries form or the statutory order of precedence as outlined in the CFR. c. Input the initial data into the Death Document Information System (DEDIS) Application based on the determination of the analyst in accordance with the CFR and FRTIB guidelines. d. Provide timely responsive customer service to various inquiries from multiple sources, to include; applicants and potential beneficiaries. e. Communicates both orally and in writing with the FRTIB, call centers, various government agencies, and other TSP entities to provide additional information or obtain additional information as required. Interfaces with law enforcement agencies in various cases. Involved in interaction with attorneys, third parties, financial institutions, government agencies, and potential, as well as, confirmed beneficiaries, as necessary to acquire information pertinent to the resolution of the death benefits claim. f. Participates in the document workflow management process for working identified death benefits claim document queues. g. Participates in the processing of disbursements by inputting disbursement data into DEDIS upon the completion of the transfer of funds process. h. Utilizes the Auto Track Application to investigate the whereabouts and locate potential beneficiaries as required in the processing of death benefits claims.2. Duties and responsibilities also include verification of death benefits claim applications, ensuring the appropriate beneficiary (ies) is selected in accordance with the CFR and FRTIB guidelines. Responsible for ensuring the accuracy of data input into the applications used to process the death benefits claim and the accuracy and correctness of all outgoing correspondence, ensuring quality initiatives for productivity and accuracy are obtained.3. Responsible for the validation of information input into the disbursement processing portion of the DEDIS application prior to the disbursement of funds. Upon completion of the validation process, initiate the disbursement of funds via the DEDIS application.Required Experience1. College Degree in Business Administration or related field, or, a combination of education and experience.2. Three to five years experience in analytical, business process, or detail oriented positions.3. Working knowledge and experience with personal computers, MS Office, or business office systems.Competencies1. Works under general guidance, independently determining and developing solutions.2. Wide range of knowledge of principles, theories, and concepts as they relate to death benefits processing in accordance with the CFR and FRTIB guidelines.3. Strong analytical, problem solving, and decision-making skills, providing solutions to complex problems which require ingenuity and creativity.4. Strong communication (written and verbal) skills to communicate with applicants, potential beneficiaries, FRTIB, call centers, various government agencies, and other TSP entities to provide additional information or obtain additional information as required. Interfaces with law enforcement agencies in various cases. Involved in interaction with attorneys, third parties, financial institutions, government agencies, and potential, as well as, confirmed beneficiaries, as necessary to acquire information pertinent to the resolution of the death benefits claim.5.
