Chief Statistician

MEDPROTECT, LLC, a wholly owned subsidiary of SAIC currently has an opening for a Chief Statistician. This position is contingent upon contract award, and can be filled in any of these locations: Baltimore, MD; Omaha, NE; Glendale (LA), CA; Seattle, WA. Preferred Locations are Omaha, NE or Seattle, WA.Job Description: Designs and performs statistical analysis of Medicare/Medicaid data using SAS and other statistical software packages. • Designs statistical random samples, uses statistically valid methods to calculate and project an overpayment made on claims. Performs Statistical Sign Off and QC on samples and overpayment projections. Assists and guides other members of the data staff on issues related to sampling. Uses SAS and other statistical software for a variety of statistical procedures and graphics and provides the results of the analysis to our internal and external customers. • Assists other members of the Data Analysis team in developing special projects by using different statistical techniques. • Supports the staff of the Integrated Benefit Management Team to design and develop feasible, logical, statistical procedures to assess Medicare claims data and provider data. Results of analysis will be provided to internal and external customers to guide medical review, fraud and abuse, and audit efforts to protect the Medicare Trust Fund. Computer programming tools such as statistical software and other computer resources will be utilized. • Utilizes programming tools to identify utilization patterns and trends. Prepares charts, illustrations, other graphics, and narrative reports to identify and explain utilization patterns and trends. Prepares documents for publication and presentation. Creates support documentation outlining procedures and special projects by using different statistical techniques. • Conducts presentations to management and outside agencies. • Assists with the routine work of the department. ----- Participates in required annual training. ----- Always maintains confidentiality of sensitive information. ----- Performs other duties as assigned. Required education/Skills: • Bachelor's degree in related field and 10+ years progressive experience in field. Work Experience: • Working knowledge of PCs and statistical analysis computer programming. Knowledge/Skill: • Database management skills • Experience with SAS. • Excellent ability to communicate, both verbally and in writing, with management, customers, and technical personnel. • Excellent mathematical/statistical, computer, analytical and organizational skills. PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS: • A Master’s degree in Statistics • Experience with multiple platforms such as mainframe, PC and alternate (client/server) platforms. • Experience with UNIX operating system. • Experience with analyses in the health industry field.
