JOB DESCRIPTION
Under general direction, with very wide latitude for the exercise of independent judgment and initiative, duties include, but are not limited to:
- Serves as a liaison in all child fatalities whose investigations fall under the aegis of the Chief Medical Examiner.
- Serves as liaison between the Chief Medical Examiner's Office and any agency responsible for reviewing child fatalities such as (but not limited to) the Administration for Children's Services (ACS), the New York City Police Department (NYPD), and the District Attorney's Office (in the five boroughs).
- Must be able to manage and share time sensitive and protected medical, welfare/child protective, and Medicolegal information.
- Provides training to outside agencies on the investigation of child fatalities as it pertains to the Office of Chief Medical Examiner.
- Represents the Office of Chief Medical Examiner on various citywide panels (as assigned).
- Will survey child fatalities in order to maintain a database for basic epidemiological profiles and baselines for research and other queries.
- Special projects and other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
1. A Doctorate degree from an accredited college or university with specialization in an appropriate field of physical, biological, environmental or social science and one year of full-time experience in a responsible supervisory, administrative or research capacity in the appropriate field of specialization; or
2. A Master's degree from an accredited college or university with specialization in an appropriate field of physical, biological, environmental or social science and three years of responsible full-time experience in the appropriate field of specialization, including one year of full-time experience in a responsible supervisory, administrative or research capacity in the appropriate field of specialization; or
3. Education and/or experience which is equivalent to “1” or “2” above. However, all candidates must have a master's degree in an appropriate field of specialization and one year of full-time experience in a responsible supervisory, administrative, or research capacity as described in “2” above.
NYC residency required within (90) ninety days of appointment.
PREFERRED SKILLS
Familiarity with child abuse issues, child health issues and Medicolegal issues helpful. Successful candidate should possess the following: excellent communication skills and a strong sense of team work; excellent IT skills; excellent analytical and conceptual thinking; Microsoft Windows, Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
