Position and Scope
The complex voice, video, and data networks that are designed and supported by DIS are statewide in scope and serve the mission critical applications of multiple state and local government agencies. Both of these project positions are one-year project position that work as a professional network specialist in the Wide Area Network (WAN) unit.
The Network Service Implementation Specialist position is in the WAN Engineering & Service Implementation Group and primary focus will be Core Switch Administration.
The Campus Fiber Specialist position is in the WAN Provisioning Group and primary focus will be transport implementation coordination and network documentation.
Both incumbents are responsible for implementation coordination of large, complex statewide, mission critical DIS or customer network projects - including Ethernet, Frame Relay, Private Line, and DSL circuit types. Responsibilities also include preparing network equipment hardware and software acquisitions, and coordinating the delivery of WAN services with customers, vendors, and agency departments.
Qualifications - Network Service Implementation Specialist
Candidates must have:
Data network Cisco Core Switch administration experience. It is preferable that this experience includes growth projection planning.Experience with Cisco VLANS and instructing Operations staff on Core Switch configuration tasks. Experience in directing the establishment of fire-wall context and rules.
Desirable - Four years of information technology experience such as consulting, analyzing, designing, programming, installing and/or maintaining computer software applications, hardware, telecommunications, or network infrastructure equipment; directing projects; providing customer or technical support in information technology; or administering or supervising staff who performed work in any of these information technology disciplines. Strong understanding of IP addressing and binary mathematics is highly desirable.
Qualifications - Campus Fiber Implementation Specialist
Candidates must have:
Experience in managing Fiber projects in a Cisco network environment Strong Visio skills are required.
Desirable - Four years of information technology experience such as consulting, analyzing, designing, programming, installing and/or maintaining computer software applications, hardware, telecommunications, or network infrastructure equipment; directing projects; providing customer or technical support in information technology; or administering or supervising staff who performed work in any of these information technology disciplines - all in a multi-enterprise or carrier-class environment.
Special Note:
This position is covered by a union security provision. Therefore, as a condition of employment, candidates who are appointed are required to become members of the Washington Federation of State Employees, or pay other representational fees within the first 30 days of employment.
These are project positions expected to last until July of 2009.
