Economic Planner I/II

General Skills

Conduct general demographic, economic, and land use research for regional and local planning efforts in North Central Texas.  Knowledge of urban development processes, basic social science research tools and customer service skills are required. Knowledge of North Central Texas commercial and housing construction activity is a plus. Competence using Excel spreadsheets and Access databases, geographic information systems (ArcGIS) and statistical analysis software is preferred, as is prior research experience. Applicants must possess strong verbal and written communication skills, critical-thinking and problem solving skills, and the ability to work in a team environment.  General Responsibilities

The purpose of this position is to analyze and interpret information necessary for regional forecasting and decision-making through the collection, verification, maintenance and dissemination of data used for regional analysis and interpretation.  This is accomplished by creating annual population and housing estimates, monitoring of major development activity, maintaining employer databases, analyzing Census and other demographic data, and performing technical analysis for local governments.

 

In addition, the position will play a large part in NCTCOG Demographic Forecasting efforts. This includes general land-use model research, running a regional land-use model, interpreting results, and reviewing local government feedback. Experience with long-term forecasting, land-use modeling, comprehensive plan experience is a plus.

 

Work requires broad knowledge in professional or technical field normally acquired through four years of college resulting in a Bachelor’s degree, with a major concentration in urban planning, urban geography, economics, or a closely related area. Planner I should have under and including one year work experience. Planner II should have over one year up to and including three years work experience. Starting monthly salary for Planner I $3062.67 for Planner II $3,277.00 higher DOQ.
