Electrical Engineer
The Homeland Protection and Preparedness Business Unit is seeking an Electrical Engineer to assist our Natick, MA operations. A Journeyman Electrical Engineer is required to perform professional duties on a wide variety of staff projects and studies with specific responsibility for electrical features involving original design, modification, repair, installation, renovation and maintenance of unique electrical industrial and technical equipment, utility plans, and power, fire alarm and telephone distribution systems of major size and complexity for a 1 million square foot, 72 acre R&D facility. Duties include developing the designs, plans (using AutoCAD), cost estimates, and specifications for lighting, power, alarm, telecommunication, utilities, and other systems of major size and complexity for use in such facilities as multistory office buildings, laboratory buildings, climatic chambers, steam and refrigeration plants, research and development pilot plants, medical buildings, residential buildings and similar structures. Also prepares scope of projects for private architect-engineer design contracts and reviews and provides comments to A/E designs, to ensure compliance with Codes, installation design criteria, energy conservation, etc. Monitors electrical installation of on-site construction projects, and serves as technical expert, providing recommendations/corrections/suggestions to Contracting Officer’s Representative (COR). Provides recommendations and technical input to in-house electricians for various installation/renovation/ construction projects. Typically, is assigned projects of considerable difficulty, i.e., containing combinations of unusual features, requiring significant departures from previous approaches to similar projects. Guidelines for Personnel Qualifications: A B.S. Degree in Electrical Engineering (not engineering technology) from an accredited college or university, as a minimum, and at least five years of experience in facilities engineering and management. Professional registration is preferred, but not required. Knowledge of engineering principles in electrical, construction, HVAC, fire protection and plumbing systems, and energy conservation. Knowledge of Government contracting procedures and contract oversight. Ability to prepare concept designs and review design submittals. General personal computer skills, preferably with MS-Office. Excellent oral and written communications skills. Excellent interpersonal skills. Proficiency in AutoCAD to create and update engineering drawings. Security Clearance: This position requires access to Government computer networks. The vendor’s security office will ensure required security checks are performed.
