Environmental and Monitoring Department Manager

The Defense & Homeland Solutions Operation of the Homeland Protection & Preparedness Business Unit has an opportunity for an ENVIRONMENTAL AND MONITORING DEPARTMENT MANAGER (DM). The Department Manager (DM) will lead a diverse team of ~20 experts in chemistry, biology and environmental sciences who are applying practical solutions to unique environmental and homeland security CBRN challenges. The Environmental and Monitoring Department is one of five departments within the Integrated Sciences and Engineering Solutions Division. The DM, as a member of the division management team and with the support of that team, is responsible for technical execution of projects and department opportunity growth. To provide oversight and technical execution of projects, the DM must have knowledge of and understanding in one or more of the following technical areas: monitoring/detection technologies, hazardous waste management, consequence management, and environmental regulations and policies. Familiarity with one or more targeted growth areas is also desired. Growth targets include hazardous material management, CBRNE consequence management, laboratory quality system implementation, NEPA support/ documentation, and Environmental Management System implementation. Essential functions of the DM include: (1) Build, maintain, and effectively manage relationships with internal and external customers; (2) Maintain good employee relations, manage current staff, hire additional staff as necessary and develop, coach, mentor, evaluate and motivate department staff; (3) Prepare Fiscal Year Business Plans and ensure revenue projections for the department are met; (4) Identify potential target market areas, manage market intelligence, and execute business development activities; (5) Advise Division Manager on status of work progress and potential problems; (6) Provide technical execution of and leadership in developing sampling plans, test plans, implementation plans, and environmental reporting plans; (7) Lead customer communications to ensure project scopes and requirements are being fully and accurately executed; (8) Effectively implement and oversee the quality management system for departmental activities. Due to Federal contract regulations, US citizenship is required. REQUIRED SKILLS/EXPERIENCE: - Bachelors degree in chemistry, environmental science, or other related technical field - 15 years related experience - 5-7 years of People Management Experience - Technical knowledge and understanding in one or more targeted growth areas - Business planning and execution experience - Marketing and business development skills - Excellent communication skills - High level of computer competency, including MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project DESIRED SKILLS/EXPERIENCE: - Masters degree desirable - PMP Certification Company: SAIC Location: Abingdon, MD 21009 Status: Full Time, Employee Job Category: Biotech/R&D/Science Company: SAIC Reference Code: 111557
