Level of Responsibility:
Responsible to the Site Manager for the overall operational availability and functionality of the IRS Campuses’ heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration equipment and systems. Acts to prevent potential problems in the HVAC equipment before they cause unscheduled system downtime.
Scope of Work:
• Installs, troubleshoots, services, and repairs air conditioning, heating systems, and electronic control systems.
• Installs and services condensing and combination units on both ground level and rooftops.
• Fabricates, assembles, and installs ductwork and plenums.
• Installs evaporator units in chassis or in air duct systems.
• Troubleshoots and services compressors, temperature controls, and circulating ventilation fans from control panels to power sources.
• Tests joints and connections for refrigerant leaks.
• Observes pressure gauges and adjusts controls to ensure proper operation to ensure safe and efficient operation of the system and to meet demands for the service providers
• Performs work according to verbal instructions, work orders, blueprints, wiring diagrams, schematics, technical publications and instructions bulletins
• Replaces defective controls, thermostats, switches, fuses, and electrical wiring to repair installed units
• Observes, documents, and interprets readings on gauges, meters, and charts registering various aspects of system operation.
• Performs preventive and corrective maintenance tasks according to manufacturers specifications and best practice methods.
• Maintains equipment documentation and operational records; enters data related to work order completion into work management system.
• Performs in-process quality control inspection of HVAC equipment.
• Participates in function-specific safety training.
Minimum Qualifications:
Minimum Experience: Four years of experience (in the past seven years) in the operation and maintenance of HVAC equipment and systems in facility of 500,000 sq. ft. or more.
Minimum Education: Graduate from a recognized school of technology or from an approved apprentice-training program. May be waived with 10 years of experience with a minimum of 5 years experience at a comparable level of performance to that of a journeyman commercial/industrial HVAC Mechanic.
Required Skills, Licenses, and Certifications: Must possess valid Universal HVAC Mechanic Certification or Stationary Engineer License
• Knowledge of the use of specialized tools to perform necessary repair functions and to troubleshoot equipment.
• Must be able to read and interpret specifications, operation manuals, diagrams, and blueprints.
• Working knowledge of operation and maintenance requirements of the IRS campus HVAC equipment and systems.
• Working knowledge of applicable regulations, standards, and safety practices.
• Working knowledge of work management and work controls systems.
• Through knowledge of standard practices and operating procedures.
• Thorough understanding of the tools, test equipment and methods required to carry out the function.
• Must be trained and certified in EPA certification for recovery and installation of refrigerants issued by an EPA-approved Universal CFC certification agency.
• Tax compliant and capable of obtaining IRS Security Clearance
• Must possess a valid state driver’s license
