Food Service Specialist

Take your culinary arts career to the next level. In the Army National Guard, the Food Service Specialist is the Soldier who takes care of dietary and nutritional needs of fellow Soldiers, ensuring their ability to meet the challenges before them. You’ll learn how to plan and prep menus, how to prepare and serve food, and how to ensure food safety and facility sanitation, whether you’re feeding 25 Soldiers or 2,500, in the field or in a fixed facility. And when your training is complete, you will have the savvy and leadership skills to assume a vital role in the growing hospitality industry.

 

As a Soldier in the Army National Guard, you join an elite group of warriors who train part-time to be ready full-time, should their State or Nation call them to serve. The Guard is the oldest branch of the military and its members have a long and noble history of serving at home and abroad to ensure the safety and freedom of their fellow citizens.

 

Major duties

· Conducts preliminary food preparation

· Prepares and cooks menu items

· Becomes proficient in various food preparation skills such as baking, frying, braising, boiling, simmering, steaming, and sautéing

· Sets up serving lines, garnishing food items, and applying food protection and sanitation measures in field and garrison environments

· Receives and properly storing supply shipments

Requirements

· High School Diploma or GED (If you do not have a diploma or GED, you may still apply – ask a recruiter about how the Army National Guard can help you earn your GED)

· Must be between the ages of 17 and 42

· Must be able to pass a physical exam and meet legal and moral standards

· Must be able to lift heavy objects
