The City of Austin, a progressive, dynamic, full-service municipal organization, is seeking to fill an Employee Relations Consultant position. 

EMPLOYEE RELATIONS CONSULTANT - 063979

 

The City of Austin Human Resources Department is seeking an engaging and dynamic professional to join our Employee Relations team in investigating complaints of discrimination, harassment, and unfair treatment, and in making recommendations to management on critical ER issues. 

 

This professional will provide phone and face to face counseling to employees and managers across City departments on complex ER matters; interpret HR policy and practices, conduct grievance hearings, train employees and managers on sexual harassment, complaint resolution techniques, EEO and employment law matters, FMLA/ADA leave issues and assist with special projects. 

 

This professional must possess a Bachelor’s degree in a related field plus at least four (4) years of HR experience in a large corporation or public institution with an emphasis on employee relations activities (ER issue resolution, conducting investigations, policy interpretation and application, performance management, complex termination/disciplinary issues). 

 

The ideal candidate must possess sound critical thinking and judgment to handle complex matters, excellent problem solving, and listening skills with strong written and oral communication skills. 

 

Must possess strong consulting and influencing skills with the ability to build relationships and develop rapport and credibility with customers, employees, and management.
