Monmouth FLSA Status: Non-ExemptPrepared By: Human Resources Department Prepared Date: 3 October 2002Approved By: Human Resources DepartmentSUMMARY The Illustrator III is responsible to the appropriate supervisor/manager for performing duties as assigned. Work is performed under minimum supervision, and employee consults with supervisor only for initial job assignment and where departures from standard practices are involved.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 1. Uses computers with desktop publishing, image editing, three-dimensional rendering, painting and/or related software, or conventional art media such as oil, watercolor, or pen and ink to produce graphic art products. Products include complex mechanicals or color separations for reproduction, display materials, design and implementation of logos, brochures, complex briefing materials, or illustrations.2. Discusses work at various stages of completion with higher-grade illustrator and makes changes as necessary.3. Acquires knowledge about the subject assigned to illustrate through carrying out illustrating assignments, but an extensive prior knowledge of the subject matter to be illustrated is not required.4. Lays out illustrations in conformity with established style and format taking into account perspective, angle of view, and artistic effect.5. Assures the protection of surrounding work areas and overall operation within guidelines of required safety rules and regulations.6. Responds to overtime or off-duty recalls from designated company authority to meet priority or emergency work requirements.7. Performs other duties as assigned.SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES This job has no supervisory responsibilities.QUALIFICATIONS To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Minimum 3 years related experience. Knowledge ofgraphic arts, equivalent to additional specialized training of at least one year. Knowledge andartistic ability in multiple illustration techniques and typography in a commercial or technical setting, proficiency in a variety of computer graphic applications.LANGUAGE SKILLS Ability to read and interpret documents such as work orders, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals. Ability to consult with customers and/or supervisor to determine customer requirements, and the ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.MATHEMATICAL SKILLS Ability to calculate figures such as proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic geometry, fractions, and percentages.REASONING ABILITY Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONSMust possess valid driver’s license and must be able to obtain and maintain in force a Secret Security Clearance.PHYSICAL DEMANDS The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
