Industrial Hygienist Technician

JOB DESCRIPTION: The successful candidates must be familiar with state and federal occupational health standards and capable of conducting occupational health sampling, surveys, and workplace monitoring under the direction of an industrial hygienist. Must be capable of conducting sampling in an ordnance workplace and determine compliance with applicable occupational health standards. Typical duties may include: Investigating and examining the workplace for hazards and potential dangers Making recommendations on improving the safety of workers Training and educating about job-related risks Ensuring that workers are properly following health and safety procedures Scope of the position may include: Indoor air quality Evaluating and controlling environmental lead exposure Emergency response planning and right-to-know Occupational disease Potentially hazardous agents such as asbestos, pesticides, and radon gas Cumulative Trauma Disorders (repetitive stress injuries, carpal tunnel syndrome) Radiation (electromagnetic fields, microwaves) Reproductive health hazards in the workplace Setting limits on exposure to chemical and physical agents Detection and control of potential occupational hazards such as noise, radiation, and illumination REQUIRED EDUCATION/SKILLS: Bachelor's degree in a scientific discipline or equivalent discipline and 1 year of experience. Sampling Experience - Able to use sound level meters, air sampling insturment,and direct read meters. Monitoring Experience - Monitor workplace compliance with applicable state and Federal laws. Assessment Experience - Assess workplace to determine the presence of potential health hazards. DESIRE SKILLS: Certification as an IH is not required but would be an added value. Must be well-organized and able to work on multiple tasks. Must have good interpersonal and communication skills.
