PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIESDrafting and typing a variety of case-related legal documents including, but not limited to pleadings and briefs, Coordinating and scheduling case preparation meetings, hearing dates, deposition dates and conference calls with agency personnel, court personnel, hearings personnel, opposing parties and witnesses, Opening, filing case related materials and closing case files, Doing required data entry and retrieval for case management and docket system, properly docketing critical deadlines and maintaining pending file, and Communicating updated information to attorneys, paralegals, client contacts and court personnel in an extremely time sensitive environment.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Work is performed in an open office environment. Candidates must be able to communicate orally and in writing, and be able to manage multiple priorities and frequent deadlines.
TO QUALIFY
Your PD100 application form will be reviewed to verify that you meet the qualifications stated in this section. To receive credit, your application form must clearly show that you have:
Two years of clerical/secretarial experience which included at least one year as a legal assistant or secretary for an attorney or judge or performed legal support duties (such as preparing legal documents, maintaining legal records or researching legal information). Experience must include proficiency in word processing software.
College coursework or training in Office Technology that included courses in legal terminology and legal office procedures may substitute for up to one year of the general clerical/secretarial experience (1 year = 40 quarter hours/30 semester hours). To receive credit for a degree or coursework in a related field, you must submit a photocopy of your transcripts.

Finalists will be subject to both a Computerized Criminal History and Driver and Motor Vehicle Services check as well as a thorough background investigation. Adverse background data may be grounds for immediate disqualification.
TO QUALIFY YOU MUST ANSWER THE FOLLOWING EXAM QUESTION(S):
Use a separate sheet of paper. Write down any work experience (paid or unpaid) and training that you have which is related to each question. Limit your answer to each question to no more than two (2) pages. Be sure that the jobs where you gained your work experience are clearly identified and described in your answers and listed in the Work History section of your application form. Your grade will be based upon your answers.
If there are several parts to a question, answer each part separately. Number your answers to agree with the question. Attach the answer sheet to your application. Your application will not be accepted if it is incomplete.
Please describe your experience working in support of attorneys or in a legal environment. Give clear examples of your ability to a) manage multiple assignments and critical legal deadlines; b) prioritize workday activities for maximum efficiency; c) respond to inquiries from clients, opposing counsel or court personnel; d) coordinate scheduling requests; e) draft, word process and/or prepare legal documents and f) handle routine daily file management with limited supervision.
2. Please describe any work experience you’ve had which included a) maintaining litigation or child welfare case files, b) using electronic case management tools for entering updated case related information, c) tracking critical legal deadlines and d) preparing documents for litigation.
