Materials Engineer

The U.S. Army Tank Automotive Research, Development and Engineering Center (TARDEC) is recruiting for Material Engineers with work experience in materials, coatings, corrosion prevention and project management skills. 

 

Specific required experience/knowledge follows:

 

-  Materials:  Knowledge of a wide range of materials and metallurgy, preferably directly related to ground vehicles.  Includes various steels and aluminum alloys, their specification and quality, and principles involved in process/property relationships - including those related to forging and welding.  Experience with weld metallurgy particularly in heavy industry is a plus.

 

-  Corrosion Prevention:  Knowledge of the mechanisms involved in metals/materials degradation, including a wide-ranging knowledge and experience with prevention or preservation methods, particularly as applicable to steel and aluminum structures.  Includes exposure to epoxy, polyurethane, or marine coatings, zinc or aluminum alloy coatings/platings, corrosion test and evaluation methods.
