Mechanical Engineering Technician

The U.S. Army Tank Automotive Research, Development and Engineering Center (TARDEC) is recruiting for Mechanical Engineering Technicians with experience in Welding and Spray Painting (Conventional or High Volume Low Pressure/HVLP).

TARDEC is a major element of RDECOM and partner in the TACOM Life Cycle Management Command.  As a full life-cycle engineering support provider-of-first-choice for all DOD ground combat and combat support weapons and vehicle systems, TARDEC develops and integrates the right technology solutions to improve Current Force effectiveness and provide superior capabilities for the Future Force.

Specific experience requirements follow:

WELDER: 
Recent welding experience within the three years Experience and familiarity with the American Welding Society (AWS) D1.1 Structural Welding Code and Standards. Experience in welding a wide range of metals and alloys ranging from 1/8 to unlimited thicknesses. Knowledge of welding specifications, procedures and joint design. Knowledge and skill in the following three (3) major welding processes - Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW), Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW) and Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW) in both steel and aluminum material. Skill in cutting processes such as Oxy/Acetylene, Plasma, and Carbon Arc Gouging.

 

PAINTER:
Recent experience as a full performance journey level painter at an industrial plant, automotive shop or prototyping shop. Knowledge of a variety of types of paint and methods of application to meet conditions and type of material to be painted, and determine proper coating material and method of preparation and application. Knowledge and skill in the latest material developments and techniques common to the trade. Experience in metal preparation prior to painting, mixing paints requiring precise measurement to ensure proper ratio, applying primer, applying final coat, and use of conventional spray gun or HVLP.
