Medical Modeler
The Homeland Protection and Preparedness Business Unit currently has an opening for a full-time Medical Modeler National Naval Medical Center (NNMC) in Bethesda, MD. JOB DESCRIPTION: Works collaboratively with the cranial imaging and dental staff to develop, enhance, and update the dental imaging systems (DIS). This includes meeting regularly with select representatives throughout the command to discuss directions and opportunities for both maintenance and evolution of services as directed by the supervisor. Serve as a liaison between information technology department, cranial facial imaging, and dental staff regarding high level system configuration changes, system upgrades, backing up data to optical disk, and troubleshooting system problems, and implementing system security requirements to mitigate or eliminate HIPAA security risks. Perform routine system backups as scheduled by the associated vendor. Periodically check the system to determine the need to modify the backup routine. Perform routine system audits to ensure the appropriate use of DIS and to maintain the security and confidentiality of the patient data it contains in accordance with Department of Defense, Department of the Navy (DoN), Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), and NNMC Security guidelines. Provide weekly updates to management team in the form of briefings, e-mail, and reports. Prepare appropriate point papers, business case analyses, and any other documentation on DIS issues. Work collaboratively with the HIPAA Security Officer to ensure that DIS complies with HIPAA standards or that the risks are mitigated to protect NNMC beneficiaries. REQUIRED EDUCATION/SKILLS: Possession of a Doctoral degree from an accredited college or university appropriate to research or equivalent experience in a research or product development environment. Eight years of post-graduate experience including five years of independent, competent, and innovative research in a field of specialty. Must have extensive experience with server administration and SQL database management, digital imaging and communications in medicine (DICOM) imaging experience, understanding of Oracle, be functional in establishing and maintaining network connectivity for imaging applications associated with dental services. Excellent communication skills to liaison with team members, management, customers, and vendors. The skill level of the candidate must be current with new technologies in order to maintain the ongoing standards required by DoN, HIPAA, and in preparation for C2 certification.
