Project Safety III (CMSI)

CMSI Project Safety III (Full-Time; Unaccompanied)

***This position is located in the Marshall Islands. You must be willing to relocate.***

Responsibilities: Works independently to develop, implement, and supervise the Project Safety and Occupational Health Plan (SOHP), along with the Performance Work Statement (PWS) and related Contract Deliverables (CDRLs). Duties require accuracy, judgment, a high degree of initiative, and sound technical understanding of one or more ES&H disciplines. Reports to and receives technical direction and functional supervision from the Safety Manger and/or the ES&H Manager. Provides technical direction and functional supervision to assigned organization. Maintains working relationship with project/facility contractor/subcontractor/client personnel to monitor compliance with requirement.  Maintains working relationship with personnel in Logistics to ensure compliance with requirements.

Specific Responsibilities:

A.  Contributes to and supervises the implementation of safety requirements in an assigned area.

B.  Monitors work practices utilized by KRS and/or others present at the site.  Advises supervisors on ES&H matters to ensure that work plan procedures are in conformance with KRS, customer, and regulatory requirements.

C.  Stops work in imminent danger situations or conditions having imminent adverse environmental impact. Recommends corrective action, and advises supervisor and responsible management of actions taken. Initiates Notices of Non-Compliance and follows-up to ensure corrective actions, as implemented by supervisor/manager.

D. Monitors and evaluates the Safety and Health program in assigned area.  Analyzes occupational safety and health hazards and recommends methods of control. 

E.  Participates with supervisors/managers in departmental work planning. 

F. Remains cognizant of federal, state, local, or host country environmental, safety, and health regulations.  Disseminates information on new/revised regulations to supervisors and employees through verbal and written communications.

G. Participates in accident investigations, documents causative factors, and prepares reports.

H. Accompanies regulatory compliance officers, local fire, safety, and insurance inspectors during audits for compliance with standards.

I.  Assists the Safety Manager or ES&H Manager in preparing specific reports as outlined in various Standard Practice Instructions (SPIs).

J.  Conducts project-specific safety awareness training as outlined in SOHP and SPIs.

K.  Monitors project compliance with the USAKA Environmental Standards (UES).

L. Completes daily and/or weekly safety status and/or compliance reports and logs as directed.

M. Executes other ES&H duties as assigned by logistics management.

Job Requirements

Mandatory:Extensive knowledge of governmental ES&H standards, rules, and regulations and proficiency in applying them to the site. Demonstrate proficient knowledge in the OSHA Maritime Standards governing Shipyard Employment; Marine Terminals, Longshoring and Ship Repair.Knowledge and/or training must meet or exceed that of a “Shipyard Competent Person” maritime endorsement.Working knowledge of safe work practices and experience in conducting accident investigations, OSHA, DOT, DOD compliance, insurance audits, workers’ compensation, and project health surveys.Proficiency in conducting ES&H training programs.Must be able to obtain and retain a United States Army Kwajalein Atoll driver’s license.

Preferred:Technical knowledge of and experience in the industrial hygiene, and environmental compliance functions.Proficiency in software applications.Knowledge of medical first aid procedures.Excellent written and oral communication skills. Bachelors Degree in ES&H/Management or related science/engineering area preferred; and/or equivalent experience/training in addition to experience leading to the thorough understanding of the knowledge described above. CSP or CIH is preferred.
