Records Management Officer

$47,918 - $55,106

Job Description:  The NYC Department of Environmental Protection is seeking a Records Management Officer at its headquarters location in Queens, NY.  Responsibilities include:

• Develops and enforces agency-wide records management procedures and  policies for records retention and disposition in compliance with all applicable NYC laws and regulations

• Administers vendor contract for off-site storage of inactive records;  oversees contract performance, renewal and bid process

• Performs surveys and analysis of business processes and record holdings for DEP units
 
• Assists with research, recommendations, and implementation of records management software solutions  

• Assess agency records management training needs and provide records management orientation to agency employees.
 
• Develops and promotes communication and outreach strategies within DEP community.
 
• Assist DEP and city-wide effort to update existing retention schedule systems.
 
• Liaison with NYC Department of Records and the Law Dept for records retention scheduling and disposition applications.

• Participates in citywide records management efforts

Preferred Skills:  •Records Management Program development •Strong analytical skills  •Ability to work effectively on teams and independently to initiate projects •Computer proficiency including Microsoft Excel, Word and Access •Familiarity with records management application(s) •Valid New York State driver license.

Qualifications:  A master's degree from an accredited college in Library Science, Archival Science, American History, Political Science or a related area, plus two years of full-time experience in archival or library science, one year of which must have been in a supervisory capacity of incumbents performing at a professional level; or  Education and/or experience equivalent to “1” above. However, all candidates must have a master's degree from an accredited college and the one year of supervisory experience as described in “1” above.
