The City of Tacoma’s Information Technology Department is seeking an SAP BASIS administrator for a permanent, full-time position with the SAP BASIS System Administration team. This position will assist with the administration of the SAP system. The team often works under pressure with tight deadlines and paid overtime is occasionally required. Candidates should have strong technical and analytical skills, excellent technical writing skills, good communication skills, and the ability to work both independently and as a member of a team. This position will assist with designing the computing infrastructure, provide technical assistance and consulting to ERP analysts and users, deploys new servers and clients, maintains each system and the respective services, monitors and troubleshoots the environment for problems, develops tools for managing the system, and makes all services available to users. Duties may include sizing, installing, configuring, tuning, securing, and monitoring SAP Landscapes of mySAP ERP 4.7 upgrading to ECC 6.0, Netweaver 04 Portal upgrading to 7.0, BI 7.0, and Solution Manager 4.0.
Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related field, or Associate’s degree in computer science and at least two years of computer operating system and/or network support experience.
Desired qualifications: Three years SAP BASIS system administration experience. Experience with Oracle, Unix, and Windows server is highly desired. Experience working in at least two of these areas – BI 3.5 or higher, WebAS (Netweaver) ABAP/Java, Solution Manager, R/3 Enterprise 4.70.

Examination Process: Applicants who meet the minimum qualifications will have an Experience and Training Test sent to them via email after the closing date. Responses to the Experience and Training Test will be scored by an evaluation committee on June 6, 2008. Each applicant’s test will be scored on the basis of information provided. It is the responsibility of the applicant to carefully list all pertinent experience and training. Applicants must pass the examination process to be placed on the eligible list for interview and hiring consideration.
Hiring Requirements: City of Tacoma residency may be required at time of appointment. It is not necessary to be a resident to apply. There is no residency requirement for current permanent or probationary City employees.
Appointment is subject to passing a background check and may include a pre-employment medical exam and drug screen. Candidates will be required to sign a confidentiality and conduct statement to ensure the security and integrity of City Systems. This position is covered by a Labor Agreement between The City of Tacoma and Union Local 120. An employee in this position will be required to join the union within 30 days of hire. New employees must successfully complete a nine-month probationary period prior to obtaining permanent status in this classification.
