Senior Scientist

The Applied Science Operation is looking for a scientist or engineer with applied-physics modeling and software development skills relevant to compressible fluid mechanics, combustion, thermodynamics, and thermochemistry. A minimum of 10 years of closely-related professional experience is required. Candidates must possess a PhD in physics, or mechanical, aerospace, industrial, or chemical engineering. Strong Fortran programming skills are essential. Excellent-quality technical writing and oral presentation skills are necessary. Candidates must be fluent with MS Word, PowerPoint, and Excel. Additional skill areas not required but desirable include: A general knowledge of structural mechanics and airblast; a working familiarity with C++, Java, and XML; and experience with industrial hazard assessments. Out-of-state travel approximately 5 times per year for nominally 2 - 3 days each will be necessary. The candidate must be able to interact well in a team environment that includes other physics modelers and code integration programmers. A DoD Secret level security clearance is required.
