Systems Administrator - Solaris and Linux Specialist

Lakewood, CO6 month contract (with potential for hire after the contract period) We are seeking an individual who is accomplished in all areas of analysis, design, installation, implementation, configuration, tuning, administration, operation and security of mid-to-large-tier Solaris /Linux systems. Position requires experience in Solaris 9 & 10 and Red Hat Linux 4. Excellent interpersonal and teamwork skills are essential for this position Principal Functions and Responsibilities: Analyze and design new large-scale Solaris/Linux systems and/or modifications to existing systems, including software requirements, processes, and characteristics for the purpose of assuring efficient and effective software design and operation. Recommend expansion/replacement of existing hardware and software components. Implement system software Solaris/Linux environment strategy0. Define controls to insure the integrity of system design and the efficient and effective implementation of project level phases. Support development of Solaris/Linux based operating system applications. Assure consistency in design and implementation of the operating system and applications regarding security compliance and best practices; identify methodology/means of tying together interactive systems for supporting multiple functions and activities. Evaluate new system and application requirements, provide technical assistance to application database administrators and identify methodologies for integrating databases. Work closely with telecommunications specialists to develop and support system software and hardware designs for applications. Review customer business requirements and evaluate specifications and features of new products, performing product comparisons, feasibility and cost benefit analysis, and performance and compatibility testing. Make technical recommendations regarding software /hardware. Install Solaris/Linux and/or client server operating system software and hardware including, Solaris/Linux supporting tools and interface support. Perform Solaris/Linux administration functions including installation, maintenance, and integration of all facets of Solaris/Linux system software products. Performs problem determination, on Solaris/Linux based systems and performs resolution in areas beyond the expertise of applications developers. Assist in monitoring operating system security; maintain patches, intrusion detection and hardening processes in conjunction with policies and guidelines; develop and maintain guidelines to ensure compliance with Government mandated policies. Maintain disaster recovery configurations for Solaris/Linux systems, perform annual disaster Recovery test for these platforms and maintain DR documentation and procedures in support of these systems. Understand Government policies and terminology in support of security requirements (e.g., NIST, ST&E, C&A, POA&M). Maintain security configuration management software, hardware system/component controls and documentation/procedures in accordance with requirements. Conduct/assist security staff in conducting internal system reviews and audits in accordance with requirements. Perform performance data collection, analysis, and tuning. Work with database administration personnel to ensure the integrity of the database environments as well as performance and capacity issues.  Required Skills: Bachelors degree in computer science or related field with a minimum of 3-5 years progressive Solaris/Linux experience or 10-11 years progressive Solaris/Linux experience with at least three years as a senior Solaris/Linux Administrator. The experience must include maintaining mid-to-large-scale complex Solaris/Linux systems, including; installing, tuning, testing and debugging DB software. Must be able to both work independently and as part of a team. Successful candidate must have strong organizational and interpersonal skills. Position requires that candidate successfully meets the requirements for a NAC (National Agency Background Check).
