Administratrive Director - Inpatient Acute Care

The Administrative Director, Inpatient Acute Care is responsible for oversight for the organization, planning, and direction of department operations that aligns with system and hospital strategic direction, policy and objectives. Establishes and implements departmental philosophy, goals, and objectives, standards, policies and procedures to achieve quality patient care and customer service. Maintains 24-hour accountability for department operations. Models appropriate behavior as exemplified in MLH Mission, Vision and Values.



Serves as an immediate associate to the VP/CNO and can act as CNO in his/her absence. Understands and clarifies, as needed, boundaries of the role, yet maintains maximum flexibility in coordinating programs. Maintains/initiates frequent updates and advisories to CNO routinely and as needed, 24 hours a day. Coordinates/prioritizes plans through the CNO to assure organizational objectives are in line. Supports and acts as a resource for patient care department leaders. Ensures high visibility in departments and at unit staff meetings to improve visibility and communication with the staff. As a leader, presents the ambition to identify opportunities and actions, streamline operations, and positively coordinate the talents of multiple directors and staff to maximize work outcomes and improve patient care.

Assists with regulatory readiness and the development of action plans in clinical areas as necessary. Provides oversight for the planning, organization, implementation, and evaluation of new patient care services and programs. Collaborates with clinical departments in the development of new models of patient and nursing care delivery. Develops tactics that integrate nursing service into hospital strategic plan. Utilizes principles of Patient and Family Centered care to design and enhance care delivery. Facilitates internal Nursing Councils and participates in a shared decision making model of nursing. Directs nursing departments in the achievement of financial and productivity goals. Facilitates the development of annual budget for areas of responsibility. Collaborates intradepartmentally and interdepartmentally to identify, design and implement patient safety and quality initiatives. Analyzes trends and uses data to improve patient safety and care.



Registered Nurse with current license to practice as a professional nurse in the state of Tennessee.



Master’s degree required.

Bachelor’s of Nursing and Master’s of Nursing Administration desired. Consideration may be given to associates without a Master’s degree when a plan to obtain a master’s degree in nursing can be completed within five years.


Previous and progressive leadership experience preferred.



Certification in appropriate nursing and/or administrative specialty preferred.
