JOB SUMMARY:  Alcohol & Other Drug (AOD) COUNSELOR

Provides group, individual counseling, education classes, orientation, individual appointments, make-up groups for alcohol and drug issues, and in the Driving Under The Influence Program (DUIP) Multiple Conviction Program facilitation of continuing care groups.

 

 ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Facilitates and conducts programs for participants in ways to reduce the negative impact of the use of chemical and alcohol involvement.



Completes case management, including the maintenance of individual client files, group rosters, and group notes.



Monitors client payment history. Keeps management informed on clients in arrears, completing monthly arrearage report.



Dismisses clients as directed in accordance with Title Nine.



Maintains group sign-in sheets, ensuring group size is in accordance with Title Nine.



Conducts re-reinstatements, intakes, transfers, orientation, and other client activities as needed.



Directs disposition of sensitive or problematic client situations to appropriate Supervisor.















































REQUIREMENTS: 

Bachelor’s Degree, AOD certification, or equivalent alcohol counseling experience.

 

Certification/Licensure:

Registered or Certified AOD Counselor in the State of California, in good standing. 

 

Experience:

Minimum two years alcoholism counseling experience.



Minimum one-year experience providing education information.

Knowledge of State and county requirements, program policies and procedures.



Federal and state confidentiality requirements.



Generally accepted principals of CD treatment, education, and prevention in a group and individual setting.



Ability to keep accurate, legible written records, and listen and communicate effectively.



Ability to facilitate client insight into their involvement with alcohol.



Ability to promote client compliance and satisfaction with program requirements, and deal effectively with a wide variety of client personalities, including hostility, resistance, and denial.

Any combination of academic education, professional training or work experience, which demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position.
