Architect


.NET Application Architect/Technical Lead

We’re looking for an experienced .NET application architect to guide the transition of our core products to a next-generation SOA platform using the latest in .NET technology including WCF and WPF.

In this key role, you will help lead the design and development of a modular component framework to support the development of inventory management systems involving remote thick clients communicating with central servers. These systems help hospitals to control inventory costs and improve patient safety in the medication management process. You will also direct and mentor developers on framework usage and best practices.

Primary responsibilities
- Guide the ongoing transition of our core/legacy architecture to the .NET framework
- Work closely with Engineering, Marketing, and Operations teams to analyze product requirements and design appropriate technical solutions
- Define a common application development framework for use by multiple product development teams
- Guide technology decisions by evaluating and recommending specific technologies to pursue
- Assist engineering managers and project managers in scope estimation and work breakdown to detail out tasks required to deliver a solution
- Provide technical leadership in software migration and rewrite activities
- Conduct design reviews and code reviews; recommend improvements and alternate strategies as appropriate
- Document technical designs using use cases, flow charts, class diagrams, sequence diagrams, database schemas, data flow diagrams, and other modeling techniques
- Guide development team in practical use of application frameworks, design patterns, and best practices
- Ensure adherence to design standards and coding practices
- Mentor developers on project work and assist in resolving technical issues on an as-needed basis

Secondary responsibilities:
- Occasional travel to customer sites for Beta test support
- Hands-on project-related software development

Required Skills:
- 10+ years hands-on experience in the IT/software development industry in new product development
- 5+ years of OO application development using .NET
- 3+ years in a technical leadership role on medium sized development projects (6+ months, 3+ developers)
- Working knowledge of WPF and WCF programming frameworks
- Experienced in application architecture definition, analysis modeling, and design modeling
- Multi-threaded application development
- Demonstrated ability to work with teams in a contributor or lead role
- Ability to estimate software development tasks given a set of requirements and assumptions
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Knowledge of software development lifecycle management, tools, and cross-functional activities

Desired knowledge and skills:
- Experienced with UML and formal development methodologies such as the Unified Process
- SOA design experience
- C++/MFC development experience a plus
- C++ to C# migration experience a plus.
- Experience with multi-threaded applications.
- MSMQ, FTP, USB devices, Serial communications.
- ADO.Net, SQL Server.
- Healthcare industry experience: HIPAA, JCAHO.

- BS in Computer Science
