Bilingual Patient Admissions Representative

POSITION TITLE:  WakeMed Patient Account Rep II

DEPT:  WakeMed Northplex- Falls of the Neuse Rd., Raleigh, NC

WORK HOURS:6:45 am to 3:15 pm (Rotating shifts)

FLSA:  Non Exempt

 

MAJOR JOB FUNCTIONS

Coordinate and participate in clerical service activities, including but not limited to, greeting, interviewing, registering and checking out patients, making appointments, assigning payment classifications and collecting payments.

 

Perform a variety of specialized tasks involved in obtaining patient financial pre-certification and authorizations for health care services and procedures; perform accounting tasks to properly settle patient accounts receivable in accordance with established policy.

 

Provide financial counseling to patients and their families regarding charges for health care services; determine fees for services provided and implement appropriate collection and refund actions

 

Maintain records of patient’s accounts; correct, update and consolidate records to include the application of proper discounts to patients.

 

Provide information regarding patient accounts to authorized personnel; answer inquiries concerning credit and collection matters.

 

Provides timely and accurate information to patients

 

Perform related duties as assigned or requested







PERSONAL SKILLS, APTITUDES AND QUALITIES

Knowledge of hospital credit and collection policies and procedures.  Basic medical terminology.  Excellent written and verbal communication skills.  Working knowledge of federal and state laws regulating patient billing practices. Must be able to meet strict scheduling requirements which include second shift, weekends and holidays.  Demonstrated ability to work independently with little supervision.  Relief hours as needed.  Must be available to rotate shifts if necessary. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Work generally requires one to two years of experience in an accounting, medical and or customer service setting to become knowledgeable of the accepted practices involved in interviewing and advising patients regarding financial resources and settling patient accounts receivable OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.  In addition, applicant must be bilingual.

 NECESSARY SPECIAL QUALIFICATION

Successful completion of HIPAA Certification required.
