Billing Services Representative (Certified Coder)

Under the direction of the Billing Manager, Certified Coders are responsible for reviewing patient medical records, pathology reports and supplemental documents in order to assign the appropriate ICD-9-CM codes to the highest level of specificity in order to bill pathology services. Utilize multiple system applications to review electronic patient records, pathology reports and supplemental documents in order to assign appropriate ICD-9 codes to the highest level of specificity  in accordance to outpatient coding and neoplasm table coding guidelines.  Ability to translate provided narrative diagnosis.  Review CCI edits and LCDs on a quarterly basis.  Communicate effectively with clients and sales reps on an as needed basis.  Maintain patient confidentiality. Requires a High School Diploma or equivalent, but prefer an Associate's Degree w/3-5 years related experience. - Clear understanding of outpatient coding guidelines and coding from the neoplasm table. - Knowledge of Medicare LCDs and CCI edits. - Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to prioritize heavy workload in a constantly changing environment. - Ability to meet deadlines. - Attention to detail. - High computer literacy, utilizing multiple information systems and applications. - Knowledge of medical terminology, medical billing practices, and ICD-9-CM and CPT coding. - Strong written and verbal communication skills. - Positive team player.
