Board Liaison -Office of the President and CEO

Visiting Nurse Service of New York is the largest not-for-profit home health care organization in the nation. We provide services in the five boroughs of New York City as well as Nassau and Westchester Counties. Together, we deliver home- and community-based services to over 30,000 individuals on a daily basis, from newborn infants to the very elderly. Our goal is to help patients and their families live as full and rich a life as possible.

Responsible for serving as the primary liaison between the Executive Office and members of the Agency’s Board of Directors to exchange information and promote favorable relations.
Oversees general corporate governance related to the Board of Directors.
Develops/revises the structure and format for general Board and sub-committee meetings, organizes meetings, coordinates logistics, ensures timely distribution of Board-related information and follows up on resulting action items to ensure completion.
Ensures the effective orientation of new Board members.
Establishes and maintains consistent and ongoing communication with Board members and serves as their primary liaison to the Executive Office.
Develops and ensures the effective implementation and maintenance of orientation and ongoing education programs for Board members, including meetings between new Board members and key Agency leadership to provide a forum for learning about the Agency, a “mentoring program” for new Board members, and a schedule of field visits to familiarize Board members with VNS services.
Works with the CEO and other Agency senior leadership to assign appropriate responsibility and decision-making powers to Board and Board committee members.

Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Communications, Public Relations or a related discipline required. J.D. preferred.
Minimum four years experience working within a CEO’s office OR a minimum of two years experience working in a legal setting required.
Strong knowledge of Board of Director meeting activities, information requirements and protocols, logistical planning, and some knowledge of public, media relations required. Excellent verbal, written communication, interpersonal, presentation and organizational skills, and the ability to interact with staff at the highest organizational level and multi-task in a fast-paced environment required.
Proficient personal computer skills, including word processing, spreadsheet, and presentation software (e.g., Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) required.
Experience preparing and maintaining databases preferred.
