The New England Eye Institute (NEEI)
NEEI, the affiliated clinical system of The New England College of Optometry, has an immediate opening at our Commonwealth Practice location for a part-time (23 hours/week) Contact Lens Lab Assistant.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Maintain sufficient inventory of diagnostic contact lenses. Order contact lenses, prepare purchase orders and invoices according to established procedure. Perform appropriate receiving procedures on incoming items, checking lenses to ordered prescriptions, quantities, etc., and resolving order problems. Maintains complete and accurate records on all lenses ordered and received. Process lenses marked for return daily and maintain records to ensure that credits have been appropriately applied by the manufacturer.Notify patients of order status. Work with patients to identify best way for delivery of products.Maintain inventory of, and records on, other clinics supplies, equipment and ophthalmic pharmaceuticals, following established ordering and receiving procedures. Participate in the annual inventory of clinic materials.Dispense lenses and supplies to clinicians. Assure that the examination modules are appropriately prepared and stocked for daily use. Assist in providing support, as necessary, to NEEI administrative operations, such as the reception desk, records room, appointment scheduling and patient billing. Participate in clinic-wide cooperative projects.Bill designated payers on-line ensuring filing deadlines are met.Perform other related duties as required.
QUALIFICATIONSHigh School Diploma or GEDPrior experience as contact lens technician or receptionist/patient care coordinator in a medical practice setting preferred.Computer experience and familiarity with Windows XP, Microsoft Outlook, Microsoft Excel and Microsoft WordICD-9; CPT, IDX knowledge or willingness to be trained.Contact lens knowledge or willingness to be trained.
REQUIRED SKILLSExcellent organizational and multi-tasking skills; Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills; Able to work both independently and as a member of a team; Good computer skills (Excel; will train on specialized clinical software program); Thoughtful, proactive and eager to provide continuous improvement of services to patients; Administrative background desired;Flexibility with scheduled work hours as needed.
