Cancer Registrar

Cancer RegistrarFull-time, daysInteracting with physicians, patients and other hospital staff, the Cancer Registrar is responsible for administering a cancer program to meet all the requirements of the American College of Surgeons.  This role reports to the Director of Cancer Services and works closely with an additional registrar and all of the oncology staff. ·  Maintains the registry in compliance with the American College of Surgeons, Commission on Cancer Standards and meets state DPH regulations for data collection/reporting. ·  Identifies cases and abstracts or updates cancer registry data promptly according to department standards.·  Maintains follow-up on all active cases annually so as to attain a minimum of a 90% follow-up success rate.·   Understands and utilizes computerized registry data system (MRS) to the fullest extent.·  Prepares agenda and maintains minutes for Cancer Committee meetings in conjunction with Chairperson; attends all committee meetings (6 times per year).·  Prepares and distributes, in conjunction with the Cancer Committee, a comprehensive registry report annually.·  Using a computerized system, participates in and/or provides cancer registry statistics to appropriate requestor according to department information release procedure.·  Performs or participates in a long-term cancer patient care study per year.·  Participates in professional education activities at local, state and national levels and applies knowledge gained to registry function.·  Works with the other cancer registrar in the scheduling of patient cases and arrangements for weekly cancer panel meetings according to department procedures. This coordination will be conducted for Thoracic, Breast, Multi-specialty and GI cancer panels.·  Interfaces tactfully at all times with patients, their families, physicians, and other staff members.·  Handles medical records and cancer registry records with complete confidentiality, confining discussion of patient/physician information to hospital related business 100% of the time.·  Other duties as assigned from time to time. Qualifications: CTR certification is required.
