Case Manager - HIV/AIDS Certified Subtance Abuse Counselor

Position Summary

Under the direction of the Multidisciplinary Team Leader, the Certified Substance Abuse Counselor (CSAC) is responsible for providing group and individual substance abuse counseling to HIV community members. The CSAC performs thorough alcohol and other drugs assessments of incoming clients. The CSAC represents SYHC in the community, interacting and networking with community service agencies that provide services to HIV positive individuals and their families. Cultivates and maintains communication and networking with multi-ethnic organizations in the HIV/AIDS community. Serves as a role model for cultural and linguistic competency for other staff to emulate. Maintain confidentiality at all levels.

 

Job Requirements

Education Required (Minimum level of education): Successful completion of associate of arts degree program in a social services related field plus three (3) years of professional experience providing direct services for alcohol and drug programs; or a bachelor’s degree in a social or behavioral science, or health, or a related field and one (1) year of professional experience providing direct services for alcohol and drug programs.

 

Certifications/Licenses Required: Current valid CADC, CAADAC, or CAS, etc. issued by the state of California and a valid driver’s license and access to insured vehicle required.

 

Experience Required (Minimum level of experience): combination of education and years of experience as specified above. Sensitivity to LGBT-related cultural concerns and the psychotherapeutic issues concomitant to HIV disease. Previous HIV field experience a plus. Experience in group facilitation and educational instruction.  

 

Verbal and Written Skills Required to Perform the Job: Bilingual English/Spanish required, with excellent oral and written communication skills. Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
