Coding Quality Specialist – Health Information Management/Medical Records Job Code #: 23749 While analyzing and interpreting medical records for ICD-9-CM coding assignment, you will ensure documentation in the medical record supports the diagnoses and procedures abstracted and reported, and are in compliance with State and Federal guidelines and regulations, and any other official coding rules and guidelines. While auditing medical records for proper DRG, CPT-4/ICD-9 diagnosis and procedure code assignment and disposition classification, you will research, review and respond to coding quality issues and questions, summarize and report on documentation improvement opportunities, and stay abreast on changes to coding guidelines and communicate those changes to the coding staff. In addition, you will provide training on coding to new staff. The qualified candidate must possess RHIA, RHIT, or RN credential/licensure, Coding Specialist-CCS (AHIMA) Certification, and extensive knowledge of medical terminology, human anatomy and physiology, and clinical disease process. A minimum of two years of previous work experience coding inpatient and outpatient medical records, extensive knowledge of ICD-9-CM and CPT-4 classification systems, and working knowledge of federal, state, and third party payer documentation requirements is required. BA/BS in Health Information Management, Nursing or related field, and familiarity with computerized encoders is preferred.
