The University of Miami Miller School of Medicine has an opportunity for a Collection Specialist at within the Central Business Office in Coral Gables.This position is responsible for resolving patient account disputes and/or balances due through the establishment of payment agreements, charity care resulting in full payment in a timely manner for services.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: answer all patient incoming calls timely and courteously. Collect patient account balances by entering and accepting payment installment agreements, discount, cash, money orders and credit card payments according to policies. Evaluate and determine appropriateness for implementing the charity care program for eligible patients according to established charity guidelines. Review and clarify with patients any billing issues for the Physician Group and Hospitals. Follow up and resolve any discrepancies. Knowledge of Medicare, Medicaid, Managed Care, and Third Party Payer System. Ability to maintain a professional demeanor when communicating with staff, patients, and all outside contacts at all times. Must maintain confidentiality with regards to patient information. Additional responsibilities and duties will be assigned as determined necessary.



High School diploma or equivalent and one year minimum experience in a medical billing or collections position. Any appropriate combination of education, certifications and/or relevant work experience will be considered.
