Job Description The communications specialist reports to the Director of Corporate Communications and works with the VP of marketing and communications, and other marketing and sales staff throughout the organization to develop programs and materials that promote the Hebrew SeniorLife brand both internally and externally and support corporate objectives. He/she must be particularly skilled in writing consumer-targeted marketing materials, and understand how to write for a variety of print and electronic media, including broadcast and Internet. He/she must also be familiar with basic graphic design principles related to layout and production of print and electronic media, and comfortable editing materials in industry standard design and word processing software programs. He/she will plan, implement and continually update a comprehensive corporate internal (employee) communication plan. As such, he/she must fully understand Hebrew SeniorLife’s mission and stay abreast of all activities, programs and directions defined by senior staff. In addition, he/she provides customer service to all departments that require support communicating and marketing to internal audiences. The Communications Specialist must be comfortable working with the Corporate Communications Department staff as a team to develop strategies that best promote Hebrew SeniorLife marketing messages.Primary responsibilities: Write content for internal and external consumer publications including magazines, newsletters and reports. Work with Director of Corporate Communications and outside agencies to develop advertising campaigns and supporting collateral materials and Web site content. Contribute Internet and Intranet Web site content. Develop a system-wide program of promotional activities and materials to support and communicate the HSL brand to all employees at all locations. Coordinate, plan, research, write and distribute the HSL employee newsletter. Work with the graphic designer in layout of the publication. Write press releases and pitch stories that highlight employee achievements and events. Support other pr campaigns with press releases and follow-up contact with journalists. Serve as a liaison to Human Resources and sit on the Employee Satisfaction Task Force. Represent the Corporate Communications Department on other internal committees as needed. Share responsibility with Corporate Communications staff in representing HSL at external and internal educational programs, conferences, symposia and other events. Responsible for developing and implementing the methodology required to measure success of the employee communication effort. Support other marketing/communications projects as assigned.Requirements: BA degree in communications or related field At least 3 years of experience in marketing, communications and customer service Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, including PowerPoint Ability to demonstrate a basic understanding of industry-standard design software including, Quark Express, In Design and Photoshop Comfortable navigating browser-based software Knowledge of the health-care and/or senior services environment preferred Excellent interpersonal skills Strong organizational skills and ability to multitask and prioritize Attention to detail, with a strong sense of initiative and perseverance to carry through to completion of tasks A self-starter, willing to set deadlines and assume responsibility of project outcome
