Controller
Full Time Accounting, Oceanside, NY
Summary
As a member of our management team, the Controller is responsible and accountable for the daily operations of the Finance Department. This will include month end closings and daily financial reporting.
Duties
Lead by example, setting a benchmark of performance in areas of innovation, motivation and animation.
Function as part of a team in encouraging team members to be successful, including imposing corrective actions when necessary.
Responsible for establishing and monitoring cash controls.
Compiles and analyzes financial information to prepare entries to accounts, such as general ledger accounts, documenting business transactions.
Devises, implements, and modifies, documents, and coordinates implementation of accounting systems and accounting control procedures.
Ensures that monthly actuals to budgets are accurate and reasonable. Reviews and corrects discrepancies with managers.
Responsible for the bi-weekly posting of payroll and acts as primary contact for audits of company's accounts.
Reconciles financial report discrepancies and problems.
Establishes, or recommends to management economic strategies, accounting of reserves, assets, and expenditures.
Studies and standardizes procedures to improve efficiency.
Examines own work for exactness, neatness, and conformance to policies and procedures.
Coordinates and maintains effective communication between Human Resources, Operations, Sales & Marketing and Finance Divisions.
Maintains both formal and informal contact with the team members of the other departments.
Knowledge and Experience
Bachelor’s degree (B.A.) or equivalent, CPA preferred; or four to ten years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. Ability to effectively present information to top management and customers. Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, percentages, fractions, ratios and proportions. Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference. Ability to define and solve problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
