Court Liaison/Substance Abuse Counselor

We are currently seeking qualified candidates for the position of Court Liaison/Substance Abuse Counselor.  This position is based primarily in Brookly/Queens Criminal and Family Court.  The primary duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Conducting screenings, assessments, intakes and participating in level of care determinations in various settings including courts, jails and prisons in order to determine appropriateness for substance abuse treatment.  Completing necessary administrative procedures for referrals and/or admission  to treatment and, as appropriate, assists in the development of a treatment plan. Facilitating admission/referral to other programs or agencies for clients in need of services not offered at our program. Meeting with clients, family members, attorneys, prosecutors, judges, etc. for plea bargaining, probation pertaining to pre-sentencing reports, bench conferences pending adjudication of cases, conferences with attorneys. Advocating for clients via statements for court records and submission of progress reports to appropriate agents of the court. Providing individual, group and/or family counseling services in a professional, ethical and competent manner. Managing all aspects of assigned caseload during treatment, with special attention to appropriate levels of care and appropriate clinical interventions. Providing backup coverage in the event of other clinical absences. Completing all needed documentation - including court and Drinking Driver Program reports. Particiating in staff meetings, case conferences and other unit meetings. Developing and maintaining positive relationships with referents and other collateral contacts (i.e. Probation, Parole, D.A.'s office, judges, CPS, managed care, EAP's, etc.) through timely written, phone, computerized or other responses. Maintaining communication and teamwork with clinical staff to integrate and enhance clinical services. Conducting toxicology testing, as needed.


Qualifications:
Experience in substance abuse assessment and referral with a criminal justice population.  Must be familiar with criminal and family court systems.  CASAC, CASAC-T with relevant experience, bilingual Spanish a plus.  We offer a comprehensive benefits package which includes medical/dental insurance, life insurance, pension, etc.
