Job Description

Create, design, integrate, and oversee the implementation of database systems in a distributed-system environment.  Define and specify database access, structure, functional capabilities, etc.  Assure data quality and maintenance of database dictionaries.  Advise users and colleagues on problems and priorities.  Make recommendations to management on strategy and long-term database needs.  Provide detailed architectural documentation as needed.

Primary Responsibilities

§  Participate in the design and implementation of a health care data warehouse.  Ensure that business requirements are identified, cataloged, and satisfied by the design of the warehouse.

§  Lead the design and oversee the implementation of new database systems.

§  Present architecture overviews to clients and prospects in sales situations.  Answer questions and engage in ‘what if’ discussions of architecture, systems, and applications.

§  Create and publish documentation and training materials for use by technical and operations staff.

§  Ensure good team communication and working relationships.  Act as an evangelist for the architecture design decisions with other groups within the company.

§  Communicate project status and issues to team members and use negotiation skills to resolve issues or conflicts.  Provide realistic assessments of work effort when projects are being scoped.

Qualifications

§  Broad and up-to-date knowledge of relational database systems and query languages and a thorough knowledge of referential integrity, triggers, and stored procedures.

§  Outstanding oral and written communication and organizational skills.

§  Ability to meet established deadlines and quality standards while delivering completed outputs within project timeframes.

§  A self-starter who can act independently with only very general direction.

§  Minimum Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science with 8 or more years of database design experience.  Master’s degree preferred.
