Database Administrator
BRIEF SUMMARY OF JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Database Administrator’s role is to design, install, monitor, maintain, and performance tune production databases while ensuring high levels of data availability. Responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing database policies and procedures to ensure the integrity and availability of databases and their accompanying software. Learns new programming languages, software tools, operating systems and is willing to cross-train within the department. Shares expertise with other employees. Supports computer system installations and integration and must interact effectively with vendor and other technical specialists in order to install, upgrade, and test system functionality. Self-motivated to use appropriate resources to troubleshoot and research problems. Able to communicate effectively with end users and analysts. Completes assignments in a timely manner. Proposes ideas for projects. Performs other duties and functions as assigned.
BRIEF SUMMARY OF QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor degree in the field of Computer Science/Information Systems/software engineering required. Eight years overall IT experience required. Four years of experience as a database administrator required. Equivalent combination of education/experience can be substituted to meet the job qualification. Certifications in MCDBA/MCITP and OCP preferred. Experience in a healthcare environment is desirable. Strong understanding of database structures, theories, principles, and practices. Working technical experience with designing, building, installing, configuring and supporting database servers, including MS SQL and ORACLE. Hands-on database tuning and troubleshooting experience. Experience with data processing flowcharting techniques. Project management experience. Good understanding of the organization’s goals and objectives. Knowledge of applicable data privacy practices and laws. Good written and oral communication skills. Strong technical documentation skills. Good interpersonal skills. Ability to conduct research into database issues, standards and products as required. Ability to present ideas in user-friendly language. Keen attention to detail. Proven analytical and problem-solving abilities. Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment. Strong customer service orientation. Individual must be self-motivated and have the capacity and desire to resolve a variety of computer system problems based on a logical and systematic approach. Must have the ability to absorb new ideas and concepts quickly. Must be able to perform in an independent manner or engage in team efforts and must be able to interact on a constant basis with many different classes of computer system users.
