Departmental Administrator/CFO-Medicine

Columbia University Medical Center (CUMC) is actively seeking a Departmental Administrator/CFO who will be responsible for the planning and organization of the Medicine Department’s financial affairs and administration for the department’s clinical, educational, and research programs. The department, with an annual operating budget of $200 million, 597 full-time faculty, 897 part-time faculty, 451 staff, and 289 trainees, is one of the premier medicine departments in the nation. The incumbent will work with the Chair on short- and long-term planning for the department, ensuring excellent administrative infrastructure.

Master’s degree in business administration or similar degree, and a minimum of 10 years of progressively responsible managerial experience in an academic health center. Effective leadership skills, proven ability to manage and lead staff in a changing and complex environment. Also required: knowledge and experience with complex information systems, an understanding of managerial accounting and finance principles, including practice management, an understanding of the evolving health care marketplace, and demonstrated ability to work effectively with a diverse population of faculty, staff, and students. Research administration experience and a high level of skill in understanding and managing research funds and pre- and post-award functions.  Strong computer skills, excellent organizational ability, and strong written and oral communication skills are required. Effective communication and presentation skills and proven track record of forming collaborative and effective working relationships with physicians and administrative leaders. Must be able to establish priorities and lead staff toward departmental goals and objectives. Participation in medical surveillance required. HIPAA Compliance training required. Pre-employment billing compliance clearance required.
