Director, Contracting

Yankee Alliance is a group purchasing and shared services organization comprised of 43 acute care hospitals in the Northeast region. 

 

 The Director, Contracting will be responsible for the negotiation of group purchasing contracts for Yankee Alliance’s acute care hospital members. The person in this position evaluates contracts offered by Yankee Alliance’s national group purchasing organization (NGPO), negotiates “local IDN tiered” prices based upon Yankee Alliance’s aggregated member volume and presents savings opportunities to Yankee’s member facilities. In addition, this position creates regional contracts that complement the NGPO portfolio to enhance the broad contract offering for the Alliance. Successful performance in this position requires the ability to deal effectively with all levels of staff within Yankee Alliance and our member facilities, suppliers and the NGPO. The person must provide superior customer service and document the effectiveness of the contract portfolios and the savings realized by the members.

 

Essential Job Functions:

·  Systematically review contract expiration reports and NGPO material to ensure there are no gaps between contracts

·  Develop and maintain relationships with key NGPO staff to ensure communication is clear and that NGPO is meeting member needs; actively participate on NGPO committees to insure Yankee’s best interests are communicated.

·  Evaluate NGPO contracts and recommend best alternatives to membership.

·  Negotiate “IDN” price tiers under NGPO contracts to offer enhanced prices based upon Yankee’s aggregated volume.

·  Review non-contract spend analytics and identify opportunities for regional contracts that complement the NGPO portfolio. Negotiate and execute final contract pricing and explore contract and product utilization opportunities to increase cost savings to the membership.

·  Monitor existing contracts to maximize value, utilization and rebates.

·  Conduct business partner reviews to monitor progress and manage process to improve penetration and performance of business partners.

·  Participate with Materials Management, OR and other Yankee committees as necessary, attend committee meetings, contribute to agenda and meeting facilitation, present at meetings.

·  Interface with Account Management team to promote the adoption and implementation of contracts and resolve contract issues that surface in the field after contract implementation



Education/Experience Requirements:Bachelor’s degree required,Minimum 5 years experience directly involved with the purchase and/or utilization of acute care hospital clinical products mandatory Clear understanding of the Value Analysis processWorking knowledge of products used in the OR, Cath Lab, EP lab, Interventional Radiology, ICUs, and other patient care areas

Skill Requirements:

· Possess a thorough knowledge of NGPO and regional contracting process

· Excellent interpersonal and presentation skills, strong organizational and analytical skills

· Strong negotiation skills a must

· Ability to work in a team environment and be able to communicate with all levels of staff at member facilities

· Working knowledge of Excel, PowerPoint, Access and Word.
