Director-Emergency Services
Requirements: Bachelors Degree in Nursing and a Master Degree in Nursing or Business is required with 5-7 years of experience in:Extensive knowledge of current trends in clinical practice, operations, and community partnerships in designated area of responsibility with evidence of achievement in leadership activities.Critical thinking, problem solving, strategic planning, project management, public speaking, coaching, and interpersonal skills.Active membership in one or more professional organizations.Flexibility in scheduling hours to meet the 24 hour needs of the Patient Care Services Division.Requires the physical ability to walk throughout the All Saints campus and participate in patient care activities as required.24 hour responsibility for areas under the respective division.Participation in community and professional activities outside of work hours.Sets direction consistent with Division goals, organizational strategies, system priorities and overall health care trends. Ensures the goals and outcomes established for designated operating units are consistent with performance expectations.Stays abreast of new innovations and trends in the areas of clinical care and service excellence; disseminates information and focuses designated interdependent management teams on best-of-class" clinical practices, management processes and supportive technologies that are relevant to WFH-All Saints.Tracks local and regional issues that influence the position of WFH-All Saints in the larger community; identifies programs and services that address larger community needs and positions WFH-All Saints as an active community participant. Sets direction and formulates strategy for programmatic growth and service delivery; develops action plan(s) for executing strategy.Develops and administers a strategic personnel plan to maintain a pipeline of well qualified leaders and staff within Emergency Care Services. Hires and supervises leadership personnel in a manner that establishes well-balanced interdependent management teams. Provides succession planning to ensure uninterrupted leadership with Patient Care Services.Cultivates a work environment that encourages interdepartmental cooperation, problem-solving and service delivery. Implements management policies and practices that support accountability and outcome achievement.Utilizes tools, auditing processes, educational programs and decision making bodies to ensure a continuous state of regulatory and accreditation readiness. Establishes the necessary infrastructure to stay abreast of changing compliance issues; interprets the impact and urgency of ongoing accreditation and regulatory requirements to the clinical operations.Assures that quality and safety is monitored, analyzed and addressed by the management, executive and governing bodies of WFH-All Saints. Removes obstacles to achieving clinical quality, service excellence and financial effectiveness targets. Takes action to integrate care delivery and operational processes across operating units, within and outside Patient Care Services, to improve service, reduce rework, error and inefficiency.Identifies trends in medical practice patterns. Monitors physician issues and takes action to analyze and address physician preferences. Serves as a liaison from administration to the medical staff practice committees and governancebodies.Establishes targets and processes to monitor programmatic growth, clinical quality and effective operations within the designated operating units. Utilizes internal and external data sources to evaluate the efficacy of continuing, growing, eliminating and adding services; referral relationships; prepares related business plans.Maintains a viable network of industry contacts to keep current with new clinical practice and management innovations. Participates in organized professional activities and applies new knowledge to administering areas of responsibility.Represents the interests of WFH-All Saints in the community as assigned by serving on boards, commissions, ad hoc committees related to area of responsibility.Financial Management and Viability Assures the development and management of the operating and capital budget within the area(s) ofresponsibility is supportive and consistent with system strategy With the assistance of assigned financial staff, reviews periodic financial statements and reports, and makes changes in resource allocation, spending, and other relevant business activity, to ensure the financial viability and budget compliance. Supports and adheres to the financial controls and related policies and procedures of WFH, andensures that administrative and business activities are conducted in support of operational excellence.Human Resources ManagementWith the support of and in coordination with the WFH Human Resources and Organization Development function, maintains positive personnel relations and strives to make WFH an employer ofchoice by ensuring that associate questions and concerns are addressed responsively. Ensures compliance with laws and regulations and adherence to WFH HR/OD policies and procedures. Ensures that performance management programs for staff and physicians are effectively administeredand that all staff receives on-going feedback and coaching on job performance, competencies, values-based behaviors and developmental needs. Evaluates the performance of designated management team and intervenes with individual members to optimize team performance. Compliance and PrivacyEnsures that policies and procedures of WFH regarding corporate compliance and privacy of patient and associate information are observed. Exercises due diligence in contracting and other activities with legal risks, and uses the services of the WFH Office of General Counsel as appropriate. Personally models professional confidentiality and discretion in all communications and exchanges of information. Supervisory PracticesCarries out normal supervisory duties and responsibilities, such as interviewing and hiringsubordinates, conducting performance appraisals and granting merit pay increases, adjudicatingrequests for time off or other associate requests, adjudicating formal grievances or responding to other individual associate concerns, recognizing associate accomplishments, etc. Carries out other duties and special assignments as delegated by the supervisor.Oversees the maturation of interdependent management teams. Ensures the appropriatedevelopment of each management team member and provides coaching to cultivate high performanceteamwork. WFH ValuesDemonstrates a visible working style, acts in a manner that is consistent with and shows commitment to the WFH Values.Description: The Director is responsible for all aspects of operations management in the Emergency Care Center. The Director has an integral role in cultivating an environment of innovation and continuous improvement in clinical services provided. This includes providing coaching and development to the interdependent management team within the Emergency Care Center. In addition, the director assumes accountability for development and execution of strategy to assure solid operations, community relationships, and physician partnerships while aligning to standards and initiatives of the Patient Care Services division and the Mission Vision and Values of Wheaton Franciscan Healthcare. The director assumes project leadership on a hospital, regional or system-wide basis as requested. The director also fulfills or assigns responsibility to meet requirements set forth by: 1) Society of Chest Pain Centers specifically serving the role of Chest Pain Center Coordinator; 2) The State of Wisconsin Bureau of Local Health Support and Emergency Medical Services for the Trauma Coordinator and related registry; and 3) roles specified by the Wheaton Franciscan Healthcare-All Saints Emergency Preparedness Committee.
