Director, Financial Reporting and Budgeting
CATHOLIC HEALTH EAST is a multi-institutional Catholic health system, which is co-sponsored by 12 religious congregations, and Hope Ministries, a Public Juridic Person within Catholic Health East. Based in Newtown Square, Pennsylvania, the System provides the means to ensure the continuation of the Catholic identity and operational strength of the sponsors' health ministries, which are located within 11 eastern states from Maine to Florida. Our growing organization has a Director, Financial Reporting and Budgeting position available.
POSITION SUMMARY
The Director of Financial Reporting and Budgeting is responsible for providing leadership and direction in all aspects of financial reporting, including, but not limited to, internal and external financial statement reporting and analysis, consolidated operating and capital budgets reporting, operating forecasts; tax-exempt bond compliance reporting and development of rating agency presentations. The Director of Financial Reporting and Budgeting has extensive participation in the annual external audit particularly related to accurate financial reporting in relation to interpretation of accounting pronouncements and other regulations and accurate and comprehensive footnote disclosures on a system-wide basis. The Director directs and oversees financial and statistical analysis and supports the organization’s senior management in the analysis and operating review process of Regional Health Corporations (RHC) operations. This position reports directly to the Vice President of Finance and Chief Accounting Officer of Catholic Health East.
POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES
Manage and direct the monthly consolidation process of the Catholic Health East consolidated financial statements and the reporting of system and RHC financial and performance indicators ensuring the accuracy, integrity, standardization and consistency of the system-wide and regional balance sheets, income statements, cash flow statements, performance indicators and other financial information, which is distributed to internal management and external parties.
Manage and direct any and all reporting requirements to the Catholic Health East Board of Directors, Catholic Health East Stewardship Committee, and Catholic Health East Compliance & Audit Committee.
Manage and direct any and all reporting requirements to the external rating agencies relative to tax-exempt debt and all reporting required under the System’s Master Trust Indenture, Credit Facility Agreements, and Bond Insurance Agreements.
Manage and direct the system-wide annual operating and capital budget process providing guidance to RHC colleagues. Thorough review and analysis of assumptions and strategies, and frequent communication with Senior Management relative to both the operating and capital budgets during the process.
Develop and maintain all financial reporting packages, including the Kaufman Hall ENUFF Advisor Series. This will encompass coordinating & training all CHE divisional staff and coordinating the RHC staff training.
Research, evaluate, and interpret new or existing accounting pronouncements, standards and other regulations applicable to the organization, as requested by the Vice President of Finance & Chief Accounting Officer. Communicate and provide education regarding any relative interpretation.
Research, evaluate, and implement industry standards relative to operating performance indicators necessary for understanding the overall outlook and challenges of Catholic Health East.
Perform special projects as requested by the Chief Financial Officer, Executive Vice Presidents, and Vice President of Finance & Chief Accounting Officer.
Manage and direct the external annual audit reporting process with respect to appropriate reporting requirements, footnote disclosures, and other required aspects of the external audit which are coordinated and audited at both the system and RHC level pertaining to the Catholic Health East consolidated financial statements, ensure all deadlines are met, and, participate or lead other responsibilities relative to the external audit as designated by the Vice President of Finance & Chief Accounting Officer.
Establish and maintain effective communication with the respective EVP or COO regarding significant financial and operational matters and activities.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, SKILL AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS
Education, Certifications or Licenses - Masters Degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business or Certified Public Accountant.
Experience - Advanced knowledge of healthcare industry. - Ability to execute and integrate complex financial analyses and to provide actionable summaries to operating executives. - Extensive knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and other applicable regulatory rules, regulations, and legislation related to accounting functions and/or healthcare. - Excellent written and verbal communication skills. - Excellent organizational skills. - Detail and deadline-oriented and ability to multi-task. Experience - Ten (10) or more years in an accounting/finance environment; heavy focus on financial reporting. - Five plus years of managerial experience required.
Skills - Strong communication, analytical, project management, computer operations and applications skills (particularly spreadsheet applications). - High degree of flexibility, independent judgment, decision making, confidentiality. - Experienced in interacting professionally at all organization levels.
