Director of Applications
Dynamic healthcare company seeks a Director of Applications for their headquarters in Phoenix. This position reports directly to the CIO and will play a key role in the organization.
The Director of Application Development is responsible for directing and managing the design, development, release and maintenance of developed business systems enterprise wide business systems. Working in collaboration with the CIO, the IT management team, and multiple business department heads, serves as a leader and advocate for the innovative and effective use of enterprise-wide business applications supporting the current and future needs of the enterprise.
The director collaborates with business unit leaders/representatives, IT leadership, technology and business consultants to assess feasibility, determine costs versus benefits, prioritize projects, and develop and implement systems plans that address the information requirements of the business and adhere to established strategic business and systems objectives. This position requires exceptional management skills in directing the activities of a group of development managers, programmers, DBA’s and business analyst’s, who work closely with their customers in defining customer objectives, requirements, designing, developing, and implementing business application systems. The Director authorizes the use of subcontracts with outside vendors for technology and service support required to meet customer needs for systems development.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities:
¨ Plans, develops, and implements a departmental strategic plan that insures that all applications developed and utilized are in alignment with trends and developments in the field, and provides solid, effective and efficient systems that support the short and long term goals of the business.
¨ Ensures that appropriate information technology is applied in solving business problems/opportunities and that information system processes, technology and capabilities enable the business decisions. Functions as consultant to the business on implications of emerging technologies
¨ Develops and maintains consistent communication with the business process owners to determine their information requirements, and ensure effective staff support of their business needs.
¨ Works in partnership with Director, Third Party Application Solutions in defining and driving the execution of a service oriented application architecture. This includes: developing technical standards, creating appropriate governance for the use and evolution of the frameworks implemented, defining and designing key SOA architecture components.
¨ Works in partnership with Director, Third Party Application Solutions in providing the appropriate oversight of database development and maintenance activities. This includes: data architecture, data accessibility, data standards, data retention, data collection and unique corporate data definition.
¨ Ensures that technology resources are effectively obtained and operated under corporate guidelines
¨ Develops and maintains ongoing relationships with software, consulting and employee resource vendors to insure that systems are adequately supported and external opportunities are understood and considered in the planning process. Negotiates contracts and agreements.
¨ Applies managerial and operational controls to maximize return on technology and personnel investments. As a member of the senior IT leadership team, takes part in operating decisions.
¨ Develops staffing plans. Recruits and hires employees. Supervises direct and functional reports. Establishes individual performance goals, reviews performance against goals, provides coaching. Plans, approves, and implements programs for timely development and progress of individuals. Plans and grants salary increases, as appropriate. Manages discipline and documentation steps in problem employee situations.
¨ Plans, builds, monitors and controls the department budget in order to support business needs and ensures that actual expenses are in accordance with the departmental budget.
¨ Serves as member on various corporate committees and task force groups.
¨ Any other duties as assigned and as may be required to perform the essential functions of the job.
