Director of Development

Description

The Director of Development and Marketing works closely with the Executive Director and the Board of Directors to achieve the agency’s mission by identifying opportunities for growth, reducing risk and strategic planning.  The Director of Development provides leadership for and oversees the activities of the development and public affairs department.  Position is responsible for hiring, staff supervision, developing and monitoring of departmental budgets and developing and achieving departmental goals and plans in conjunction with staff.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Oversees and manages all development and public affairs activities.
2. Provides leadership in comprehensive development and fundraising activities for the agency.
3. Supervises development staff including; grants manager, director of corporate development, director of public affairs and the events coordinator.
4. Develops, monitors and evaluates the development budget, goals and programs in conjunction with development staff.
5. Works with development committee chair, committee members and staff to develop effective fund raising strategies that meet the agency’s financial goals.
6. Acts as staff support to board development, event and guild committees, assists in preparing agendas and fund raising revenue reports.
7. Develops, implements and coordinates strategies for raising awareness of ASF and its accomplishments among the agency’s stake holders (clients, volunteers, donors), the HIV affected community and the general public.
8. Works closely with Executive Director to manage the Director of Public Affairs and oversee all ASF’s public affairs activities with print, TV and radio media; and politicians.
9. Coordinates and implements all aspects of the major donor programs and events.
10. All other duties as assigned by the Executive Director.

Requirements


QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION
Candidates must have a minimum of 3 to 5 years management experience in the areas of development and communications in a non-profit setting.  A bachelor’s degree in business administration, marketing, public relations or other related field is required.  Excellent interpersonal skills, the ability to motivate others, budgeting experience, superior written and verbal communications skills and computer literacy are a must.

Other required skills include creative problem solving, long and short term planning and the ability to work effectively with a diverse group of people. Candidates must have at least five (5) years of experience working in a non-profit organization, and be sensitive to the needs of people impacted by HIV disease. Must have knowledge of word processing and fund development related database software.

Bilingual capacity (English/Spanish) is a plus.
