Director of Nursing- Labor & Delivery, Postpartum
Voted "Best Large Employer in Central Texas"by Austin Business JournalAUSTIN—St. David’s HealthCare, with five facilities delivering more babies annually than any other Central Texas hospital system, today announced a $100-million investment in women’s and neonatal services. This represents the largest single investment in women’s and neonatal services ever in the history of Central Texas. Labor and DeliveryThis area is currently experiencing rapid growth with the monthly delivery rate exceeding 400 deliveries. It includes 13 LDR's, 2 triage rooms, 2 bed recovery rooms for Cesarean Sections and other obstetrical related procedures. This area also has the unique feature of doing newborn transition in the mother's labor room, thus decreasing the separation time between mother and newborn to almost zero. If there is any need for separation, it rarely exceeds 30 minutes in the transition nursery. All staff are NRP, AWHONN-ELECTRONIC FETAL MONITORING certified. An educational push is being done to encourage RNC specialty certification, ACLS, and limited ultrasound training. Focus for education in the future will be for high risk OB. Nursing procedures encourage nursing qualifications to perform placement of fetal scalp electrodes, intrauterine pressure catheters, and for nursing anatomy. Post Partum-Couplet CareThis is a 27-bed unit supporting couplet care. Lactation Consultants are available seven days a week to encourage and support breast-feeding. All nurses are NRP certified and actively involved in patient education.
