Director of OR

POSITION DESCRIPTION

The Director of OR will be under the general direction of the Chief Nursing Officer.  The Director is responsible for professional nursing care and related assistance to perioperative patients. The Director provides direction to the Clinical Manager, Registered Nurses, Licensed Vocational Nurses, and non-professional nursing personnel in providing direct patient care and in providing supervision of the Surgical Services areas. The Director supports the medical care of patients under the direction of the Medical Staff pursuant to the objectives of the Hospital. Applies knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span to identify patient and family requirements relative to age specific needs.

Essential Duties/FunctionsAccepts accountability for successful department operations and ses logic and methods to solve varied and complex problemsAssumes responsibility for doing the right and just thing in all situationsDevelops and maintains Performance Improvement initiatives specific to departmentStrives to effectively and efficiently provide servicesEstabllishes clear objectives and goals for work teamVerbal and written communication is timely, clear, concise and provides all necessary informationGives performance evaluations on the time, providing clear job standards and expectations to staff. Deals with problems in employee performance and behavior by administering performance management in a consistent and timely manner. Actively strives to increase employee retention rateMakes proper assignment of personnel and manages staffing schedules effectively and efficiently. Monitors and compares expenses to budget on a regular basisDevelops unit specific policy and procedures to ensure smooth operations

Required Education

Must be a Graduate from an Accredited School of Nursing for the Registered Nurse.  Prefer BSN, Masters prepared(Business or Nursing)
