Director of Planning and Project Management

Position Purpose and Responsibilities Application Services' Director of Integrated Planning and Project Management primary responsibility is to ensure all projects (Strategic and non-Strategic) meet their deadlines and intended results. This leader needs to ensure that Project Management best practices are consistently followed. Through direct management of Project Managers (FTE's and Contractors), the Director will provide oversight, coaching and mentorship to the staff. This leader will create standard project management processes to assist the staff in delivering high quality projects. The Director's second major responsibility is to support the Department in cross-functional IT endeavors and strategic planning initiatives. This leader will be on point for developing multi-year roadmaps and effective business plans with the various Department Directors. There are also communication and coordination responsibilities associated with supporting the department. As a line Director it is expected that this leader will perform management and administrative duties. Prinicple Accountabilities Reports to the Senior Director of Application Services. Drives planning activities including software releases and works collaboratively within Application Services and other key areas of IT. Oversees communication execution both internally within Application Services and externally to IT and our business partners Responsible for technical delivery of projects through oversight of Project Managers. Oversees the budget accountabilities for Application Services. Responsible for policies around Governance, Demand Planning, Performance Management, Strategic/Tactical Planning and Process Management. Drives adherence to IT policies. Relationships Partners with Integrated Planning Directors to ensure consistency in project engagement and planning processes as aligned with the Integrated Planning vertical. Collaborates with Application Services Directors, Managers and Architects to execute current projects and to plan for future projects. Position Requirements BS or BA degree 10-12 years technical project management in complex multi-layered, complex environments, with oversight of up to 10 concurrent projects. Experience with financial management, including budgeting, planning and reporting. Experience managing project managers and system analysts with career development as well as project execution. Outstanding communication skills, and proven ability to build partnerships with business team members Experience in managing & delivering across a combined in-source/out-source environment (ISPs, ASPs, Offshore, etc.) is required. Experience with iterative life cycle methodologies ideal (e.g. Rational Unified Process, Use Cases), and in applying the principles. Demonstrated ability to lead high performing teams to meet project goals of quality, schedule and budget. Health Care background preferred but not required. Soft Skills Understands how to leverage existing business resources for competitive advantage. Consulting/business advisory experience desirable. The ability to develop, build, and articulate support around a long term vision and implement incremental milestones in support of that vision is critical. Must have excellent communication, negotiation and influencing skills along with high personal integrity, credibility, and energy. Demonstrated leadership in achieving shared objectives in a matrix, managing cross-divisional projects, coordinating projects and services across boundaries, and building effective cross-functional teams is essential. Excellent coaching and counseling skills, including the ability to assess strengths and developmental needs accurately and to give timely, specific feedback to staff. The ability to abstract and to see and present the big picture is critical. Ability to help others see their part in the context of the overall design.Health care experience is a requirement (5 yrs).previous experience in a Director role, solid knowledge of IT and technology, extensive PMO experience Additional Requirements Consulting and/or multi-discipline experience preferred. Project management certification (e.g.- PMI) desirable. Quality management experience (e.g.- Six Sigma) desirable.
