Director of Risk Management

Bronx Lebanon Hospital Center Health Care System, a multi-facility community teaching and integrated Health Care System servicing approximately 950 beds is seeking a Director of Risk Management

The Director shall serve as the point person for legal matters involving the entire hospital system compromised of approximately 950 beds in an acute care setting (Concourse Division) and Psychiatric Facility (Fulton Division) and 35 Ambulatory Care Clinics.



 Duties include:

Plans, develops and maintain the internal Risk Management program for risk identification, loss prevention and claims control in accordance with federal, state and local regulatory agencies. 

Advises management of potential sources of loss and recommends method of minimizing, eliminating or financing/insuring the risk of loss. 

Coordinates and communicates with other departments, committees and individuals in all areas of the organization so that risks are minimized or eliminated. 

Oversees the review and investigation of all occurrences to analyze and identify trends of potential or actual areas of risk, and makes recommendations to reduce or eliminate the probability of the risk recurring, thereby allowing for improvement of quality of care and the continuity of Hospital functions.  And other functions as required.

Required Experience:

Three (3) to five (5) years Risk Management experience in a healthcare environment.  Knowledge of current regulations and legislation pertaining to malpractice and other related issues concerning hospital operations.  Experience in monitoring and evaluating professional liability and general liability claims and lawsuits.  Experience in interfacing with local, state and federal agencies on various medical/legal issues pertaining to healthcare.  Experience in directing and conducting educational sessions for staff.  Associate in Risk Management (ARM) CPCU or other appropriate insurance designation is desirable. Ability to communicate effectively with hospital staff, physicians, patients, attorneys and others.
