Disaster Recovery Specialist

Essential Functions & ResponsibilitiesPerforms backout and recovery functions as documented. Assists in the investigation, planning, documentation, implementation, and maintenance of disaster recovery plans. Works with procurement and other IT departments in the coordination of new systems arriving. Develops and promotes corporate-wide disaster recovery awareness through education programs. Develops a planning process that protects Iowa Health System (IHS) in the event that all or part of its operations and/or computer services is rendered unusable. It is critical that the planning process minimizes the disruption of operations and ensures some level of organizational stability and an orderly recovery after a disaster. Develops a planning committee to oversee the development and implementation of the disaster recovery plan. Develops and performs a risk analysis and business impact analysis with regards to Disaster Recovery. Works with planning committee to establish priorities for processing and operations Works closely with individual departments to identify critical needs (necessary procedures and equipment required to continue operations should a department, computer center, main facility or a combination of these be destroyed or become inaccessible) in the event of a disaster of any form. Develops recovery strategies. Develops, performs and documents data collection tools for information gathering. Organizes, documents and maintains a current written plan. Develops and promotes testing criteria and procedures conducting quarterly testing of plan. Advises and communicates with all levels of management, staff and end users concerning the services, capabilities, and standards of the disaster recovery plan. Maintains regular and consistent attendance at work. Adheres to all IHS Personnel policies and procedures, departmental policies and Safety guidelines. Behaves in a manner consistent with all Corporate Compliance policies and procedures.

Qualifications/ExperienceMinimum of two years experience in disaster recovery concepts and solutions. Demonstrates a broad understanding of information processing technology. Extensive knowledge of a full range of existing and emergency disaster recovery approaches, directions, technology and capabilities. Effective interpersonal skills Excellent planning and organizational skills. Ability to understand and deal effectively with problems and opportunities, which arise, in a complex multiprocessing environment is crucial. Understands computer system functionality, limitations, and architecture of supported applications. Ability to work as a team member, creating and maintaining effective working relationships. Ability to understand and apply guidelines, policies and procedures.

Education

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science.  Equivalent on-the-job training will be accepted only if previous experience applies to specific supported systems and products.
