Division Manager

Job Details:
I. Position Summary: The Division Manager in the Department of Medicine is responsible for managing operations in designated divisions of the Department of Medicine with a focus on improving the patient experience, faculty experience, quality of care, and financial performance of the Department of Medicine. These initiatives will be conceived, designed and implemented across campuses within the Department, in close collaboration with UMMHC hospital management. Projects will focus on establishing improvement strategies that consist of process re-design, engagement of existing management in work teams, and coordination with supporting services at UMMMC, including hospital administration, central billing office, finance and budget teams, clinical affiliates and compliance. This position also involves collaboration with professional medical staff, and house staff trainees. A broad exposure to the functions, processes and staff of the Department of Medicine will be a fundamental component of this role with a focus on identifying and implementing opportunities for improvement. The Division Manager will report to the Senior Administrator of the Department of Medicine.

III. Position Qualifications:

Qualified candidates must possess a Bachelors's Degree in business administration or other relevant area. Demonstrated ability to lead and direct a project team and conduct effective meetings and work sessions required. At least six to ten years of proven project management, professional, administrative, supervisory or management experience required. Experience with computer-based tools, including database management, spreadsheets, word processing and project management software essential. Must have outstanding interpersonal skills, both written and oral.

Unless certification, licensure or registration is required, an equivalent combination of education and experience which provides proficiency in the areas of responsibility listed in this description may be substituted for the above requirements.

Department-specific competencies, including age-specific competencies, and their measurements will be developed and maintained in the individual departments. The competencies will be maintained and attached to the departmental job description. Responsible managers will review competencies with position incumbents.

Prior experience in Hematology/Oncology is required.
